Leeds United have been urged to look at signing Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard this summer by Noel Whelan, after the Leeds icon watched his old side lose to West Ham United – and Whites fans have reacted on Twitter to his suggestion.
Patrick Bamford has been in excellent form for the majority of the campaign, clocking up 13 Premier League goals in 28 games for Marcelo Bielsa’s side and even prompting talk of an England call-up. But against West Ham, he struggled in front of goal.
The striker missed a glorious one-on-one chance when slipped through on goal by Diego Llorente – and then blazed an effort from six yards out when superbly picked out by Raphinha. It was not a game to remember for Bamford.
While the ex-Chelsea man has been excellent, and continued to shine for the Whites despite criticism aplenty from supporters – especially in the Championship. But competition is required and Whelan has suggested an option, in Edouard.

“I’m looking at people like Edouard up at Celtic”, Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds following Monday’s defeat to West Ham.“He’s got 12 months left on his contract. Leicester sniffing around him. At 23, he covers most bases when you look at a centre forward.
“In terms of goals, set pieces that he can take as well and what he’s done at Celtic over the years. He wants a new challenge, you can see that. £15m to £20m gets you that player. He could be a very good addition to the team, but hey, I’m not Victor Orta.”
The Mail have claimed that Leicester City are interested in signing Edouard – a move that will see Brendan Rodgers reunite with the Frenchman. A fee of £15million is said to be close to agreement, with Arsenal and Roma also interested.
Edouard has been in stunning form for Celtic and while the Hoops have surrendered the title to Rangers, Edouard is likely to attract interest from Premier League clubs this summer – and Whelan wants Leeds to sign the striker.
