Leeds United defensive midfielder has been praised by Ian Wright after receiving his first England call-up.
The 24-year-old has been named in Gareth Southgate’s 24-man squad for the Three Lions’ opening Nations League fixtures next month.
England, who’ll be playing for the first time since November, travel to Iceland on Saturday, September 5, before facing Denmark on Tuesday, September 8.

Phillips was superb Leeds last season, his high-calibre displays helping the Elland Road side to the Championship title and a return to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years.
The Leeds-born ace was given his debut at by Neil Redfearn in 2014 and spent his formative years in the first team as a central midfielder.
Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival at Elland Road in the summer of 2018 saw Phillips pushed further back in the formation, developing into the indispensable player he is today.
It’s little surprise, therefore, to see him rewarded with an England call-up, and Wright was pleased with the news, letting the player know this too:

Phillips made 40 appearances for Leeds in all competitions last season, claiming two goals and two assists, and has clocked up 181 competitive senior appearances for the Whites overall.
