A number of Ipswich Town fans have taken to social media with their thoughts on Ed Sheeran becoming the Blues’ new shirt sponsor.
The singer-songwriter, who lives in Suffolk and is a supporter of the League One club, has signed a one-year deal to sponsor the men’s and women’s first-team shirts for the 2021-22 season.
The logo on the shirts features the symbols +, x and ÷, which are the titles of Sheeran’s first three albums, as well as the symbols – and = above the word “tour”.
“The football club is a big part of the local community and this is my way of showing my support,” the 30-year-old told the Ipswich website.
“I have always enjoyed my trips to Portman Road and I’m looking forward to going back there as soon as supporters are allowed into stadiums again.
“With the new owners from the US coming in, there are sure to be exciting times ahead for Ipswich fans, including myself.”
Asked what the logo on the front of the shirt means, Sheeran added: “All will be revealed in time.”
Sheeran is known for his long-standing affinity with Suffolk and the Blues.
His record-breaking ÷ tour concluded in August 2019 in front of 160,000 people over four nights at Ipswich’s Chantry Park and a commemorative Ipswich Town shirt was sold to mark the event.
