Southampton succumbed to a 3-2 reverse at the hands of Manchester United as the Red Devils came from two goals behind to secure a big win in the Premier League.

Goals from James Ward-Prowse and Jan Bednarek had put the Saints into the ascendency. A stunning second-half fightback saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claim three vital points.

Bruno Fernandes scored and a brace from Edinson Cavani saw United head back north in positive spirits.

It was the performance of Ward-Prowse that caught the eye though, with the 26-year-old scoring his fourth goal of the campaign.

Southampton tasted defeat for the first time since September, with United ending an unbeaten run which has stretched to seven games.

Ralph Hasenhuttl will have been impressed with what he saw in the first half, although his team’s game management will need some fine-tuning.
