Arsenal newcomer Thomas Partey has taken to the pitch for the first time since his long-awaited move to the Emirates Stadium, playing 90 minutes for Ghana on Friday night.

The 27-year-old midfielder had been linked with the Gunners for a number of months and was said to be one of the number one targets for Mikel Arteta this summer.

Arsenal fans were delighted as Partey made the switch to North London from Atletico Madrid on transfer deadline day, after the Gunners had triggered his £45million release clause.

Partey signed a long-term deal at the Emirates Stadium after he completed his medical and paperwork just before Monday’s 11pm deadline.

He didn’t have time to stick around, however, as he headed to Turkey to link up with the Black Stars contingent ahead of their games against Mali and Qatar.

Partey played the full 90 minutes against Les Aigles at the Emirhan Sports Centre, but couldn’t prevent his nation from falling to a 3-0 defeat.

His performance split opinion, with some fans thinking he was poor, and others slating the Ghana management for playing him out of position – as a No. 10.
