Some fans elated as Saka scores first-ever England goal in win over Austria
Some Arsenal fans were over the moon after Bukayo Saka notched up his first goal for England in the win over Austria.
The youngster opened the scoring for the Three Lions in the 56th minute during the 1-0 win over Austria.
It was the youngster’s first senior goal for his home nation in just his fifth cap.
The goal caps off what has been a fine season for the 19-year-old attacker. He scored seven goals and registered 10 assists across all competitions for the Gunners.
Speaking after the game about his performance, Gareth Southgate claimed the youngster is like a ‘slippery eel‘ when he receives the ball.
Meanwhile, Saka claimed it was the ‘best moment’ of his career.
TBR View: Saka performance enhances chances of shock England start during Euro 2020
Saka’s performance against Austria has done his chances of a shock start against Croatia no harm.
There proves to be a great deal of stars ahead of him in the pecking order. The likes of Phil Foden, Jadon Sancho, Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford are all trust lieutenants of the manager’s.
However, his performance last night could see him force his way into the starting XI for the opener against Croatia.
Here is how fans reacted to his goal…
Buzzing for Saka tonight. May have been a tap in but he’s a player who gives absolutely everything for the shirt whenever he steps on the field. Others may warrant a place in the #ENG squad ahead of him but he genuinely offers so much. Hope he proves himself at the Euros. #AFC— Matt Dawson (@mattddawson) June 2, 2021
