Some Everton fans urge Ancelotti to give one player his fifth ever Premier League start this Sunday

A number of Everton fans have urged Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti to name Anthony Gordon in his starting XI for Sunday’s Premier League away clash.

The Blues, who head to Southampton, will be without the suspended Richarlison, while James Rodriguez suffered an injury in the Merseyside derby.

Richarlison incurred a three-match ban after being sent off for a reckless challenge on Thiago Alcantara, while Rodriguez was injured in a coming together with Virgil van Dijk.

This means two of Alex Iwobi, Bernard and Gordon are likely to get the nod either side of Dominic Calvert-Lewin in a three-man attack.

Gordon, widely regarded as one of the Everton academy’s best prospects, has finally made his first-team breakthrough following his heroics for the Toffees Under-23s.

The 19-year-old was never picked for a senior game by Marco Silva, having to make do with the odd place on the bench, but is now getting much more game time under Ancelotti.

That said, he’s yet to feature in the Premier League this season, and were he to start this weekend, it would be just his fifth top-flight start in the blue shirt.
