This summer saw Everton trying hard to bring Wilfried Zaha to the club from Crystal Palace. As reported by The Telegraph, the Ivory Coast international was left ‘devastated’ at his club’s decision to reject a £52 million bid from Everton for the player. According to The Guardian, Everton were willing to go as high as £70 million-plus Cenk Tosun for the player, who handed in a transfer request at Selhurst Park.
But Palace stood firm and Zaha remains an Eagles player.
On the opening day of the season, he started on the bench against, coincidentally, Everton. But Roy Hodgson gave him a starting role in the clash with newly-promoted Sheffield United this weekend.
It is fair to say that Zaha did not put in one of his best performances.

The attacker struggled to take on the Blades defenders and he certainly played like a man distracted.
The end result was an abject display all-round as Sheffield United picked up a 1-0 win.
Everton fans watching the game were certainly vocal about Zaha’s performance. Many were pleased that Everton did not manage to get a deal done for the player, based on this rather insipid display.
Others, however, suggested that Zaha was perhaps not at his best because of the confusion over his future in recent weeks. Here is how some Everton fans reacted to the 26-year-old’s display.
