Some Celtic fans surprised by Oliver Burke’s match-winning Scotland moment

Steve Clarke has guided Scotland to a win in his first game as manager of his nation. It was a tight affair against Cyprus but a late goal from Oliver Burke secured all three points for the home side.

Andrew Robertson had given Scotland the lead with a stunning strike, just one week after winning the Champions League with Liverpool. However, Ioannis Kousoulous’ 87th-minute goal appeared to have earned Cyrpus a point.

But minutes later, Burke scored the goal that had plenty of Celtic fans confused on Twitter.

Burke scored twice on debut against St Mirren but soon found himself in and out of the Celtic starting XI.

By the end of the campaign, with Neil Lennon as manager, the 22-year-old was finding himself out of the squad entirely.

Celtic fans certainly saw the best and worst of Burke during his time at Parkhead. Strong, fast and powerful, the raw ingredients are all there. However, he demonstrated a lack of composure at times that left some Celtic fans glad when Lennon started using him sparingly.

So whilst Celtic fans were over the moon that Burke had secured a crucial win for Scotland in their Euro qualifier last night, many were left wondering if he would have missed the same chance in green-and-white hoops…
