Some Arsenal fans would actually be happy to see £50m man join Spurs this month
A number of Arsenal fans have given their thoughts on speculation linking them and Tottenham with Tariq Lamptey.
According to The Sun, Spurs have now joined the race for the reported Gunners target.
The outlet claims Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is a fan of the player, who has also “drawn covetous glances” from Arsenal.
Lamptey has impressed for Brighton since joining from Chelsea in 2020.
The 21-year-old has made 32 appearances for his side, and has hit the ground running following a long-term injury last year.
Lamptey spent much of 2021 out with a hamstring injury but is now back and impressing for the Seagulls.
The Sun also claims that Arsenal and Tottenham would be looking at a price tag of around £50m for Lamptey.
Brighton paid just £3m for the player so they’d be making close to 17 times profit.
While Lamptey is a quality player, some Arsenal fans feel £50m is too expensive.
The Gunners have Takehiro Tomiyasu in their ranks, who has cemented his place at right-back.
And £50m for a player who’d not be a guaranteed started doesn’t sit well with some supporters.
Indeed, some Arsenal fans would actually be happy for Spurs to bring him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium:
Let them win the race. We can get much better at that price.— Rahul (@Find_me_a_Name_) January 6, 2022
Why pay £50m for a fifth right back that doesn’t start ahead of Tomiyasu when we have big holes in midfield and upfront?— Sam (@SamAFC21) January 6, 2022
No way we are thinking of paying £50m for Lamptey. I mean he’s good for back ups and 3CBs but too expensive.— Nwokesonye not Nwokesonye? (@RealistHenry) January 6, 2022
£50M ? 💀 Just go into depths of the Serie A and find another Tomiyasu— CG (@CNSG35) January 6, 2022
They can have him. If Arsenal want to sign anyone from Brighton, it should be either Bissouma or Trousard— 𝕿🦁 (@towsynofficial) January 6, 2022
50m is what you pay for a Cancelo type FB. Lamptey, with all his attacking output / work rate is still not worth 50m. Think we’re better off maybe looking at alternatives— Coach (@meatbenjamin) January 6, 2022
Let him go there…they’d have spent nearly 100mil on rb in 3 years…wait for Norwich to get relegated and get Arrons on the cheap— Jason Clay (@JasonCl27104227) January 6, 2022
