A number of Arsenal fans have been discussing the prospect of snapping up Declan Rice if the Gunners miss out on Thomas Partey.
The Atletico Madrid midfielder has been linked with Arsenal for a number of months and, according to Mundo Deportivo, is a priority target for Mikel Arteta’s side.
However, GhanaSoccerNet claims that Partey will instead put pen to paper on a new £135,000-per-week deal at the Wanda Metropolitano, which will see him double his wages.
The outlet claims that 27-year-old has a release clause in his current Atletico contract that runs out in 2023, believed to be between £42million and £45million.
However, should Partey sign this new deal, it would reportedly increase his release clause to £87.2million.
With the Atleti and Ghana ace potentially set to become off limits for Arsenal, some supporters have been talking about potential alternatives.
One mentioned was West Ham’s Rice, who has already surpassed a century of competitive first-team appearances for his club despite being only 21.
The England international, who is reportedly earning £30,000-a-week, has come for huge praise in the past 18 months.
Here is what some Arsenal fans have been saying about whether Rice would be a good fit for Arteta’s side:
His defensive output and work rate is top class matched with an ability to play in tight spaces. As I said not the exact profiles but people forget Rice is only 21 and all the time to add to his game.
Would be a great signing for any club.
