Some Arsenal fans urge club to sign £25m ‘Ronaldo-type’ ace who loves Gunners

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to call on the Gunners to bring Ollie Watkins to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The Brentford forward has been in superb form for Thomas Frank’s side this season, weighing in with 26 Championship goals and three assists from 49 league fixtures.

Watkins’ exploits this season kept the Bees challenging for automatic promotion alongside Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion.

Sadly for Brentford, they fell short in their pursuit of the top two and, after making it to the playoff final, fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Fulham at Wembley.

It remains to be seen whether Watkins would want to take part in another season in the second tier after showing he’s certainly got what it takes to shine in the top flight.

Indeed, it has been reported by Sky Sports that Brentford have placed a price tag in excess of £25million for his services.

In early March, Watkins admitted that securing a switch to Arsenal would be his dream, in conversation with the Sports Gazette at the London Football Awards.

“Yeah, the dream. That’s the dream to play for Arsenal one day”, he said. “But you know, it’s a long shot.”

With question marks over the futures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, could a player deemed as “Ronaldo-type” by his manager (Wandsworth Times) be a good replacement?
