Arsenal have agreed on a deal with Flamengo for the services of defender Pablo Mari, according to Brazilian outlet Globo.
The Gunners will pay £4.2 million to take the centre-back on loan for the rest of the season.
Following his loan spell, the club will have an option to make the deal permanent; although the amount is confidential, according to the report.
Arsenal had agreed to pay £7.5 million to sign the 26-year-old last week but pulled out of the deal.
The Gunners were thought to have a desire to loan the player first, rather than jump straight in with a permanent transfer.
A compromise now seems to have been made, with Arsenal set to add Mari before Friday’s transfer deadline.
Mikel Arteta will welcome another addition to his defensive ranks.
Arsenal’s defending has been erratic at times this season and he will hope Mari can help improve that aspect.
The Spanish defender did have a spell at Manchester City but failed to make an appearance under Pep Guardiola.
Arsenal fans it would seem aren’t overly convinced either.
Looking at Twitter following this morning’s news, some supporters are extremely underwhelmed by Mari’s potential addition.
Here is a selection of tweets from Arsenal supporters as the club prepare to sign Mari:

For sure there was a reason why Man City let him go for only 1.7 million.

If he was good top European clubs would have got him by now. Instead he’ll just turn out as another flop, just like Luiz, Mustafi and Sokratis.

Why? im going to get called negative for saying this but for too long weve signed underachievers, hyped them up and then been suprised when they dont come in and play like prime Adams, its not rocket science, you pay for what you get especially with a player whos experienced.

Our short term fixes don’t really work recently (Lichsteiner, Suarez, Ceballos) , all the best to Mari

Blame Kroenke for this. He clearly us refusing to give funds. I wish he would just go. The lot of them. Shockin that this sort of deal takes so long. We shouldn't be so happy that this is the level of purchase we have to settle with.
