Some Arsenal fans think they’ve spotted clue rarely-seen 21-year-old and 20-year-old will be in squad on Sunday

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the absence of Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson from the latest Gunners Under-23s squad.

Both Willock and Nelson are pushing for regular starts, but are yet to feature in the Premier League this season, having had to make do with minutes in the cups.

Willock, 21, has made four Premier League matchday squads this season but hasn’t taken to the pitch in the competition, though he has made six appearances in the cups.

Nelson, 20, hasn’t made a single matchday squad in the league this term, but has featured twice in the Europa League and once in the League Cup, as well as the Community Shield.

Given how talented both players are and how much first-team games they already have under their belts (67 and 42 respectively), there have been calls from Arsenal supporters to give them more game time.

On Friday, Arsenal U23s were in Premier League 2 action against their Everton counterparts, a game Steve Bould’s charges won 1-0 through Emile Smith Rowe’s early goal.

Several notable players were involved for the Gunners – Calum Chambers, William Saliba and Sokratis Papastathopoulos to name but three – but not Willock and Nelson.

Here is what some fans were saying on social media about what they hoped was a clue for Sunday’s trip to Leeds:
