A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the club’s interview with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in which the Gunners striker hints at potentially staying with the club amid speculation over his future.
The Gabon international’s current contract at the Emirates Stadium expires at the end of the 2020-21 season and talks over a new deal are said to be continuing.
Aubameyang is arguably Arsenal’s most important player, having scored 20 goals in all competitions this season and donned the captain’s armband on numerous occasions.

However, the Gunners face a huge battle to qualify for the Champions League, eight points separating them from fourth-placed Chelsea, and even a Europa League spot is far from certain.
As a result, there are doubts over whether Aubameyang would want to remain at Arsenal long-term in that case, or even whether they could afford a new contract without European competition money (Daily Mail).
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta, meanwhile, is reportedly eager to either tie Aubameyang down to a new deal or sell him in the summer instead of allowing his contract – and value – to run down.
However, Aubameyang may just have dropped a hint over his future, telling the club media team: “It means a lot (to play here). When I was younger I used to watch Arsenal because they always had great players and they won trophies as well. I think it is really a pleasure to be here, I am really happy – that’s my feeling.
“I love the fans here. On my Insta, I am happy I have them because after this miss (against Olympiacos) everyone could say ‘he killed us today’ but everybody sent me messages to say ‘keep your head up’ and stuff like that so I am just happy to have them and happy with them.”
Some fans on social media are now hoping Aubameyang’s hints will develop into a signature on a new contract:
