Some Arsenal fans respond to club’s Tweet about former midfielder

Former Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby turned 33 on Saturday, and some fans reacted to a message posted by the club.

The French ace represented the Gunners for almost 10 years, but only made 180 appearances having been dogged by injuries.

After signing from Auxerre for £2 million in January 2006 (BBC Sport), Diaby was tipped for big things with the Gunners.

When fit, Diaby was a joy to watch at the Emirates Stadium.

His technical brilliance combined with his physicality made him a truly fearsome opponent.

But Diaby simply couldn’t string games together as injuries ruined his time in north London.

In only two seasons did Diaby ever make over 20 Premier League appearances, with the 2009/10 season being his most fruitful (40 games in total).

After years of struggle, Diaby left the club in 2015 to join Marseille – but it was the same old story for the colossus at Stade Velodrome.

There he made just six appearances and in February 2019, Diaby hung up his boots.
