A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on Houssem Aouar’s display for Lyon last night, during which he was sent off.
According to ESPN, the 22-year-old remains Mikel Arteta’s top target for the remainder of the transfer window, the Spaniard reportedly eager to build his team around the midfielder.
Indeed, the outlet claims Arsenal remain frontrunners for Aouar’s signature, though player sales would be required for the Gunners to meet his €60million (£55million) price tag.
Admittedly, the Lyon captain didn’t have his best game last night, cutting a frustrated figure for much of the first half before being shown a straight red in the 44th minute.
Aouar was initially cautioned for his challenge on Arnaud Souquet, but after consulting VAR, the referee dismissed the Lyon man – the first sending-off of his career.
Below is some of the Arsenal fan reaction to Aouar’s display, dismissal and body language:
Aouar seeing red? He already knows which colour London is.

He didn’t want to miss his flight to London. We’re gargantuan

Just seen it and personally I believe it’s a yellow, and the same situation as KWP at the weekend. Real shame for Aouar to have to go out like that

Aouar red card ? Man loves red welcome to Arsenal

The look of a frustrated & unsettled man… Body language isn’t everything but Housem #Aouar cut the figure of someone with a lot on his mind tonight… Named Captain, but a late studs up hack cost him & his side at MHSC. #AFC transfer talk likely to increase in the coming days. pic.twitter.com/4OGNWmr04b

Commentator said he looked distracted the whole game and is probably the last game for Lyon and if you believe the rumours he’s coming to Arsenal. Can’t make it up man 😭😂

Not surprised Aouar was sent off, he looked frustrated before the tackle and VAR correct in upgrading that challenge to a red. What a dreadful way to end your time at a club #Aouar

Montpellier took the lead in the 38th minute through a Teji Savanier penalty and doubled their advantage via the same player just before the hour.
Memphis Depay halved the deficit for Lyon with a spot kick of his own on 82 minutes, with Vitorino Hilton’s prior sending-off seeing both sides finish the game with ten men.
