Some Arsenal fans react to David Ornstein's update on Saliba deal
Some Arsenal fans were reacting after the club decided against discussing a new deal with William Saliba.
According to David Ornstein, the Gunners will send the defender on loan without extending his contract. It could leave the side in a perilous position when the ace, whose contract expires in 2024, returns next summer.
The news emerges as the central defender closes in on a temporary move to Marseille. Ornstein claims that the French side have agreed to sign the player on a season-long loan.
It means Saliba will spend the third year of his five-year contract, signed in 2019, away from north London.
Saliba situation poorly handled
Whether Arsenal would be right or wrong to give Saliba a new deal, the whole situation has been poorly handled.
His lack of integration into the club since his move from Saint-Etienne highlights the mess at the Emirates Stadium.
A former coach of Saliba’s has previously compared him to Raphael Varane and Virgil van Dijk. However, it would be shocking if he ever sets foot on the pitch in north London.
The potential arrival of Ben White coupled with Rob Holding’s new contract makes it extremely difficult for the 20-year-old to make an impact.
Throw in his contract situation and Arsenal have handled this situation extremely poorly.
Here is how some Gunners fans reacted to the update…
If he was really in the club’s long term thinking then they would’ve extended his contract. He’ll have two years left on his contract next year and will probably be sold for a loss. It’s pathetic that’s he’s not being given any chance by Arteta.— Bhavin (@Bhavin_174) July 12, 2021

By the time he plays his first season after the 3rd year, we'd suddenly start huffing n puffing to get him to sign a new contract
The state of this club man
I just don't understand why we can't get a simple "lad's got real potential but he's not quite ready (for the PL)", or "here's what we're looking for from his performances", or "Our hope to have him working with the 1st team by (pick a date)". JUST. WHY?!— Jason Marck (@jasonmarck) July 13, 2021
He's done here. There's no way he's going to sign a new deal next summer.— ' (@yajatdev_10) July 12, 2021
