Some Arsenal fans react as Fabrizio Romano confirms Emirates 'legend' has joined new club

Former Arsenal defender David Luiz has officially found a new home as the defender returned to Brazil to sign for Flamengo.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Twitter that the veteran centre-back had signed for the Brasileiro Serie A side on an 18-month contract. Arsenal and Luiz mutually agreed to separate this summer after the defender’s contract expired.

Luiz has not played club football in Brazil since 2007, with the defender taking to Europe to join Benfica aged 20, but the centre-back has decided to return to his homeland with Flamengo.

The former Arsenal star is the second player to sign for a Brazilian club after departing the Emirates this summer. Willian mutually agreed to leave the north London side in order to sign for his boyhood team Corinthians.

The defender’s two years with Arsenal was eventful, to say the least. Luiz was regularly reliable in defence. But the Brazilian often had a moment of madness in him which often cost the Gunners points.

And with Luiz now a Flamengo player, some Arsenal fans on social media are eager to see the defender succeed in Brazil. The Rio-based club are one of the best sides on the continent.
