Some Arsenal fans have reacted after Gabriel Martinelli confirmed his return to training.

What’s the story?

The Brazilian posted an image on his Instagram showing him at the club’s training ground.

He captioned the post ‘back to work’, representing a swift return to club action.

The 20-year-old won gold with Brazil at the Tokyo Olympic Games just last week. Martinelli appeared three times for the South American nation, scoring a penalty in the semi-final.

He will be hoping for a better season than last campaign when he featured just 23 times for the Gunners.

Martinelli needs to force his way into contention

Last season was a reality check for the Arsenal youngster.

His debut season in north London could not have gone better. 12 goals in just 24 appearances and a major trophy all in under 12 months.

He even earned mass praise from the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Ronaldinho. The latter compared the youth star to Ronaldo.

However, the second season was a bit of a fall from grace as a long-term hamstring injury struck. It meant the star didn’t return until December 2020 and, even then, he barely featured.

This third campaign may well be the hardest yet, as Martinelli attempts to force his way into Arteta’s plans.
