A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to rejoice after reading the Telegraph report claiming Gunners captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is set to sign a new contract at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gabon international is arguably Arsenal’s most important player and has enjoyed another wonderful season in the red and white, scoring 29 goals and taking over the Gunners team captaincy.
Aubameyang also played a huge role in helping the Gunners to silverware this season, scoring two in the FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester City before netting a brace against Chelsea in the final.
However, the 31-year-old’s future has been under intense speculation for a number of months, given that his contract expires next year.
There has been much debate amongst fans and pundits over whether Arsenal should sell him this summer or let his contract run down if he didn’t commit to a new deal.
According to The Telegraph, however, Arsenal are optimistic that Aubameyang’s future will soon be resolved.
The outlet claims that the Gunners are on the verge of agreeing a new deal until 2023, with his wages set to be in excess of £250,000-a-week.
The Telegraph also spoke of verbal promises being made during a positive round of talks, and it is expected that Aubameyang will soon put pen to paper.
Aubameyang has also reportedly received encouragement that Mikel Arteta will be allowed to strengthen his squad sufficiently this summer in pursuit of a Premier League top-four finish.
Needless to say, there is much jubilation from Arsenal fans on social media, as seen by some of the reaction below:
