Some Arsenal fans disappointed as Mat Ryan seals Sociedad move
Some Arsenal fans were disappointed after Mat Ryan completed a permanent move to Real Sociedad.
The Australian revealed on his Twitter account that he has joined the La Liga side ahead of next season.
Ryan spent the second half of last season on loan at Arsenal, making three appearances in the Premier League. However, he failed to make his switch permanent despite his eagerness.
The former Brighton man returns to Spain after four years away from the country. He previously played for Valencia, where he made just 23 appearances for the club.
Graham Potter labelled him a ‘great servant‘.
Arsenal may have missed a trick
Arsenal may have missed a trick in letting Ryan join Sociedad on a permanent deal.
The ‘keeper was reliable across all three of his top-flight league appearances for the Gunners. He would have been an astute option to fill the number two position behind Bernd Leno.
Reports have claimed that Aaron Ramsdale, an Arsenal target, would cost the club £40m. But the Australia international had just one year left on his contract this summer.
He could have been a cheaper transfer for the Gunners in what could already be an expensive window.
Here is how some Arsenal fans reacted to Ryan’s switch…
Kind of disappointed to see Mat Ryan 🇦🇺 join Real Sociedad. He would have been a perfect number #2 at #Arsenal. However he deserves to still be playing first XI football and he’s much more likely to get that opportunity in La Liga. Good luck to him. 🛑— Arsenal News Channel (@Arsenalnewschan) July 12, 2021

But from an Arsenal point of view, it's a worrying situation..we lost our best GK last season, Leno doesn't want to renew and might leave, Onana prob going to Lyon, we have lost an amazing backup GK, Okonkwo is inexperienced.. https://t.co/cnYHTJLNcr pic.twitter.com/Z41eQfqoLd
