Some Arsenal fans congratulate Martinelli after included in Brazil's Olympic squad
Some Arsenal fans congratulated Gabriel Martinelli after the Brazilian was included in his country’s squad for the Olympic Games in Tokyo this summer
The star was included in the team alongside Gunners teammate Gabriel Magalhaes as part of the 23-man side that will travel to Japan.
The Games were due to be held last year, however, the Coronavirus pandemic ensured they were cancelled and moved back to the summer of 2021.
It’s a blow to the Gunners and manager Mikel Arteta, who could be without the duo for the start of the Premier League season with the competition set to start on July 23rd and run until August 8th.
The Gunners have relied on their attacking youngsters for the majority of this campaign with the senior squad members failing to take any responsibility.
It has led to speculation over the futures of the more experienced players, who reportedly want to leave the club in the summer. Willian and Alexandre Lacazette have been named as two of the stars who could depart, which would leave the outfit short of forwards for the start of next term.
