A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to express their concern with the future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the wake of the Gunners’ Europa League elimination last night.
Mikel Arteta’s charges took a slender 1-0 lead into the last-32 second leg at the Emirates Stadium as Olympiacos came to town.
Arsenal were taken to extra time by Pape Abou Cisse’s goal early in the second half which levelled the tie, but Aubameyang’s overhead kick in the 113th minute seemed to have nudged the Gunners into the next round.
As extra time entered its latter stages, however, Arsenal conceded again, this time through the unmarked Youssef El Arabi’s effort.
Most heartbreakingly for Aubameyang, he failed to put away a late gilt-edged opportunity, which meant the visitors progressed to the next round on away goals.
Most of the Arsenal fanbase has rallied round the Gabon international, who has been superb for the Gunners since his arrival in 2018.
However, some supporters are anxious because the Europa League would arguably have been the best chance for Arsenal to make the Champions League.
At present, the Gunners are seven points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, and qualification via a top-four Premier League finish looks a tall order.
With the likelihood of Champions League football next season having diminished, some fans worry the chances of the Gabon international leaving in the summer have increased.
Here is some of the fan reaction on social media:
It’s hard to say, but Aubameyang has the right to choose better than Arsenal next season. This is not the end of everything, but anyone who wants to leave because he wants to be better, for now we cannot hold them, we must be realistic about the situation.😢

I feel so sorry for Aubameyang, top scorer in the prem and he’s still sat in 9th, and now he scores an overhead to win the tie and his defence can’t hold on for 8 minutes 😤 If he chooses to leave for a better side I wouldn’t blame him one bit

Dear Aubameyang we Arsenal fans would like to thank you for being an amazing striker but it’s painful to see you cry, please leave in the summer for a better club.

You get what you deserve in football (most of the time). Really poor today. Gotta feel for Aubameyang. A man at the top of his game deserves better. Can’t have any complains if he wants to leave in the summer. #afc

Aubameyang nearly in tears because he knows that means no champions league and he will leave #ARSOLY

#ARSOLY Deserved far more than Arsenal, Aubameyang will leave in the summer and these players are to blame

Aubameyang, if you leave, I understand

Aubameyang is probably leaving Arsenal now with possibly no Champions League or even Europa League next season. Lacazette and maybe other players might leave too. We’ve got to be prepared for the worst now. #AFC
