Some Arsenal fans were left agreeing with Mikel Arteta after the Spaniard backtracked the club’s demise to five years previously

Speaking in an interview before the weekend clash against West Brom, the former Manchester City coach claimed that whilst the side are in a rot, the process started half a decade ago as opposed to just a few months ago.

Arsenal were on the end of humiliation Thursday evening after struggling to a 0-0 draw at home to Villarreal, the club’s 10 home game without a win across all competitions this campaign. It means the Gunners can no longer qualify for the Champions League and face the possibility of no European football through the league with the club sitting in 9th place.

The club have been through four managers across the last five years, however, have also lifted four trophies, two if you discount the Community Shield. However, there has been no competing amongst Europe’s elite with their last appearance in the Champions League coming during the 2016/2017 season.
