Solskjaer confirms 'excellent' Maguire will miss Leicester clash in boost for Foxes' top four hopes
Harry Maguire looks set to miss Manchester United’s clash against his former club Leicester City tonight after the defender limped off with an ankle injury during the win over Aston Villa.
Speaking ahead of the game against the Foxes, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed the center-half could be out for a ‘few days’ or a ‘few weeks’ as the club waits for the full diagnosis on his injury.
Leicester go into the game against the Red Devils looking to get back to winning ways after getting thumped 4-2 at home to Newcastle United. Tonight’s clash comes just a few days before the Midlands outfit take on Chelsea in their first FA Cup final in over half a decade.
Speaking ahead of the game, Brendan Rodgers claimed their top-four aspirations still lie in their own hands.
TBR View: Maguire injury provides a huge boost
Among the many United players, Maguire has been one of the most consistent and was the only ever-present out of the whole first-team squad prior to his substitution last weekend. Speaking yesterday, Solskjaer praised the club’s skipper for his displays and relatively injury-free campaign, labelling him ‘excellent‘.
Leicester knows only too well what it’s like to lose your best defender for a big game when Jonny Evans was replaced last minute prior to last Friday’s game against the Geordies after picking up an injury in the warm-up. Amidst his absence, there seemed to be chaos among the Leicester defenders with both Caglar Soyuncu and Wesley Fofana dropping disastrous performances.
The former Leicester man’s absence certainly gives hope to the in-form Kelechi Iheanacho especially after Victor Lindelof’s error against the Villains. Eric Bailly, Maguire’s most likely replacement for tonight, also proves to be wholly inconsistent and when paired with the Swede boosts Leicester’s hopes to attain victory.
