Tottenham want to sign Valencia midfielder Carlos Soler to boost their options in the engine room, according to ESPN.
They report that they want the versatile Spaniard in the summer and are willing to pay £30m for his services after regularly watching him throughout this season.
French champions Paris Saint Germain are also apparently keen on Soler but Tottenham are confident that they can attract him with the promise of greater first-team opportunities.
Soler may already be familiar to some English football observers because of his impressive performance in this season’s Champions League against Manchester United.
Soler opened the scoring when a shambolic United side travelled to Spain for the final matchday of the group stage, setting the tone for a 2-1 victory over the Reds.
They couldn’t handle his movement and direct running from midfield and it may hearten Spurs fans to see that their latest target has already shown that he can cut it against English opposition.
He can also play in a variety of midfield roles – out wide on the right and also more centrally – which is ideal for a Tottenham side that is becoming slightly thin on the ground in the engine room with the departure of Mousa Dembele and injuries at an inopportune time.
