'Sold on the idea': Journalist claims 'perfect' Chelsea target wants Tottenham move, bid made
Tottenham Hotspur remain in talks with Sporting CP over Pedro Porro, a player who has also been linked with Chelsea.
However, Spurs are yet to make a breakthrough with the Primeira Liga giants.
Earlier today, Fabrizio Romano claimed that Tottenham had submitted a new bid for Porro.
The transfer insider, writing on Twitter, claimed the Spurs bid “includes one player plus guaranteed money”.
However, Tottenham have seen this “formula” rejected by the Portuguese giants, added Romano.
Talks between Spurs and Sporting will continue, continued the Italian.
However, the latter seemingly won’t settle for less than his £40m release clause.
Earlier this month, the Daily Mirror claimed that Tottenham wanted to pay a fee of around £27m along with sending a player out on loan.
By the looks of it, there’s still a fair bit of work to do before both clubs reach an agreement.
However, things shouldn’t be too complicated player-side, according to Dean Jones.
The journalist told GiveMeSport he believes Porro is “sold” on the idea of joining Tottenham.
“From everything I know about this one, it sounds very much like Porro is sold on the idea,” he said.
“I think he’s keen to make the move to Tottenham, but Spurs want to avoid this release clause.
“I think they’re trying to work out if they can set up this deal in a different way without paying up all of that release clause.”
Conte eager to improve quality at RWB
Tottenham could certainly do with bringing in a new right wing-back as soon as possible.
Antonio Conte doesn’t seem fully satisfied with any of his current options in that position.
Emerson Royal has struggled on numerous occasions, and the jury’s still very much out on him.
Meanwhile, Matt Doherty has done well at times, but he’s still not quite the world-class RWB Conte needs.
And as for Djed Spence, Conte doesn’t seem to view him as Premier League-ready.
The Spurs boss is known for his three-at-the-back system featuring pacy wing-backs.
However, this is something his squad has largely lacked during his time in north London.
With that in mind, Porro seems like a great shout. However, Sporting certainly aren’t making it easy for Spurs.
Romano previously said that Tottenham ‘love’ Porro and feel his style of play is ‘perfect’ for Conte.
Hopefully Spurs can find a solution that also works for Sporting.
