Solanke is doing all he can to impress Klopp on international duty

Dominic Solanke is not the only young English player who gets more gametime on international duty than he does with his club.

Given Liverpool’s exciting and varied array of attacking options, it is hardly surprising that the former Chelsea man cannot get a game at Anfield.

That does not make it any less frustrating for Solanke, who cannot do much more than what he did as England Under 21s travelled to Italy last night, looking to take their run of unbeaten games to 21.

He led the line for the Young Lions and secured an impressive brace to earn his side a 2-1 victory and send a message to Klopp that despite his lack of gametime for the Reds, he remains fit, sharp and ready if called upon.

The Reds frontman wasted no time in getting on the scoresheet as he opened the scoring after just eight minutes; getting on the end of Ryan Sessegnon’s cross to slot past home goalkeeper Emil Audero.

Italy equalised after that but Solanke scored the winner with a poacher’s finish to seal the win with just eight minutes of the second half gone.

Solanke will not force himself ahead of Roberto Firmino any time soon but it is important for him to show Klopp he is fit and firing if he is needed.
