Arsenal are already making plans for an exciting summer transfer window.

Martin Zubimendi has been strongly linked to Arsenal, while Arsenal could sign Nico Williams in this upcoming transfer window too.

Speaking on the RTE Soccer Podcast, Sol Campbell has been discussing Arsenal’s summer transfer plans, and he says that the north London club need to sign a proven striker this summer.

Sol Campbell says Arsenal need to sign a proven striker

Campbell spoke about what Arsenal need to do this summer.

The pundit says his former club should definitely go for a new striker, claiming he’d like to see a striker of Declan Rice’s calibre signed – an experienced player at the top level.

“I think I would definitely go for a centre forward and just say, well, let’s see. Let’s look at like Rice, how they brought him in, and he’s proven what he can do, and he’s getting better and better and better with all aspects of his game. I think the main thing is, I think don’t scrimp and scrape, don’t try to find someone who’s up and come in, and also don’t get someone who’s maybe back end of their career or whatever,” Campbell said.

Still really good, but back end of the career. You need to get someone midstream, someone very early 20s to get the best out of them and to build a team around them. So it’s a centre-forward I would go for.”

The Declan Rice type striker Arsenal want to sign

Campbell says that Arsenal need to sign a striker who is similar to Declan Rice, someone who was proven at the top level, a good age, and experienced.

Of course, finding players who tick those kinds of boxes isn’t easy.

However, there is one striker Arsenal have been linked with who very much is in that mould.

Alexander Isak is Arsenal’s dream target, and there are a lot of parallels to be drawn between Isak and Rice.

Rice had proven himself at West Ham for years before moving to Arsenal, the same way Isak has been at Newcastle.

At the age of just 25, Isak still has what could be his best years ahead of him too.

However, Newcastle don’t want to sell Isak, and getting this deal done won’t be easy.

Whether or not Arsenal can find another striker who ticks these boxes remains to be seen.
