Sol Campbell has told TalkSPORT that Arsenal should have been in the mix to sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid this summer.
The Los Blancos is set to be on the move before the season gets underway. It is Manchester United who looks to have won the race for him, with Arsenal in the mix to sign Ben White instead.
Campbell spent many years enforcing the Gunners defence and now he feels that Arsenal have missed a trick over Varane.

He told TalkSPORT: “I’d be busting a gut to bring in Varane. When you look at it, there would be an instant impact. Look at what he’s won in the game, the experience he brings to the game.
“He’s a winner and he could teach his teammates around him. That’s what you want.
“He’s young enough, he’s in his best years and he’s had a wonderful career, so yes, bring him in.”
Varane has won four Champions League crowns and three league titles during his time in Madrid. He has also helped France win the World Cup and as Campbell says, he’s a born winner.
At 28 he should be at the peak of his powers and he does look like a decent addition to the Manchester United ranks.
Campbell deluded if he thinks Arsenal should be in for Varane
Without sounding too harsh, the former Arsenal man needs to grasp the reality facing the Gunners this summer.
With no European football on the table, the club will have to take a step back this summer. They’ll be forced into shopping in a different market and that’s only natural.

It could actually benefit Arsenal and their Premier League form by not being in Europe for a season.
For Campbell to suggest they should have been in for Varane, however, is just nonsense and Ben White is a far more realistic option at this moment in time for the Gunners.
