Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has taken to Twitter to praise his virtual alter-ego for scoring with his weaker right foot as the Hoops contested their Flag Day campaign-opening fixture against St Johnstone on eFootball.
Neil Lennon’s Celtic, along with the rest of the teams in the Scottish Professional Football League, will not be in action until further notice due to the major health crisis sweeping most of the world.
Last week, all domestic professional and grassroots football under the jurisdiction of the Scottish Football Association was suspended indefinitely, with SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster saying it was “neither realistic nor possible” to continue in the current climate (BBC Sport).
While the crisis is being tackled, football clubs have sought to keep the show going in a safe and responsible manner, and on Saturday, the traditional SPFL matchday, Celtic decided to give their fans the opportunity to watch the Hoops in action on eFootball.
Celtic ran out 4-0 winners over St Johnstone, with Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard netting a brace apiece, and Griffiths (the real one) was especially surprised by his avatar’s efforts:
