Portugal were unsurprisingly the favourites going into the game and they set the pace after just four minutes. Wolves’ Fabio Silva found Tavares on the left side of the box and the Arsenal man smashed the ball into the back of the net.

Tavares was a constant threat throughout. He was given all the space in the world on the left flank with Liechtenstein sitting very deep. He exploited that really well and he was arguably unlucky to not come away with another goal or two.

Gooners hailed Tavares’ quality on the ball, pace and ability to pick out a cross. Some of them even want him to start ahead of Tierney when the Premier League returns, which should tell you how impressed some supporters were by his performance yesterday.
