'So underrated', 'baller': Some Arsenal fans react as 2021 signing stars in sensational 11-0 win
Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares started for Portugal U21s last night and played a big part in helping them smash 11 past Liechtenstein.
Yep, you read that right. The Portuguese youngsters picked up a record-breaking 11-0 victory at the Estádio Do Vizela. Tavares started at left-back and it was probably the easiest game he’ll play this season.
The 21-year-old joined the Gunners from Benfica for £6.8 million in the summer. (Guardian) He scored in Scotland on his debut in pre-season, but he was only brought in as a backup to Kieran Tierney, and that hasn’t changed.
Tavares, however, has impressed with his pace and skills on the odd occasion that he has come on. He has a really bright future ahead of him and his performance last night showed exactly how good he can be.

Portugal were unsurprisingly the favourites going into the game and they set the pace after just four minutes. Wolves’ Fabio Silva found Tavares on the left side of the box and the Arsenal man smashed the ball into the back of the net.
Tavares was a constant threat throughout. He was given all the space in the world on the left flank with Liechtenstein sitting very deep. He exploited that really well and he was arguably unlucky to not come away with another goal or two.
The Portuguese under-21 international, however, picked up two assists to end a truly sensational night. Liechtenstein were beaten all ends up and Arsenal fans were delighted to see Tavares show the world what he’s all about.
Gooners hailed Tavares’ quality on the ball, pace and ability to pick out a cross. Some of them even want him to start ahead of Tierney when the Premier League returns, which should tell you how impressed some supporters were by his performance yesterday.
