‘So sharp’: Jamie Carragher blown away by Forest man’s first-half display, says he caused Tottenham big problems
Forest fell to a 2-0 defeat at the City Ground today against Antonio Conte’s men but were the better team in the first-half.
New signing Morgan Gibbs-White linked up brilliantly with Brennan Johnson but the Reds struggled to create clear-cut opportunities.
Johnson was a big threat in the opening half and Carragher praised the Forest man for his display.
Carragher blown away by Johnson’s display
“Johnson’s been brilliant, he really has,” he said.
“So sharp. Every time the ball comes into him, it looks like something is going to happen. [He’s] been a real problem for Spurs.”
Johnson grabbed his first Premier League goal last week against Everton and put in another promising display against Spurs today.
The 21-year-old was one of Forest’s brightest players on the day as he got in behind the Spurs defence on multiple occasions.
But the talented youngster didn’t manage to find a breakthrough on the day as Conte’s men defended resolutely.
Johnson often found himself in threatening positions and delivered some brilliant crosses, but Forest did not have a recognised striker on the pitch in the first-half.
Forest will feel disappointed to have not got anything from the game as they looked the better side for large spells of the match.
But two goals from Harry Kane earned Conte’s men their third win of the season.
Steve Cooper’s men travel to Manchester City on Wednesday night and will be hoping to build on their promising display today.
The Reds certainly created good openings and will need to make the most of their opportunities if they are to get a result against the Premier League champions.
