'So happy', 'one of the best': Some Everton fans rejoice over exciting report
A number of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to praise the reports claiming the Toffees have offered Leighton Baines a new one-year deal at Goodison Park.
The 35-year-old has been at Everton since 2007, when he joined from Wigan for a reported £6million, and has made upwards of 400 appearances for the Toffees.
Baines signed a 12-month deal last summer that runs until the end of the current season, and multiple outlets including The Times say he has been offered one more year.
This would most likely enable the veteran left-back the opportunity to conclude his career at Goodison Park.
Although Baines has featured only six times this season, he provides valuable cover for Lucas Digne plus is an important influence in the dressing room.
Here is what some Everton fans have said on social media about the prospect of Baines remaining with the Toffees for one more season:
dont care what anyone says, leighton baines for me is an Everton legend, and in the argument for our best player since 1992 alongside the likes of lukaku and kanchelskis pic.twitter.com/jQXHFiAkTO

The lad is a true professional and Blue through and through, hope he stays, hope he becomes a coach with us.

Well deserved. True blue, model professional. Came back into the side after months on the bench, and looked like he’d never been away. Gives 100% every time.??

Absolutely. One of the best we’ve ever had. pic.twitter.com/R0Wyw1cr4C

So happy bout Baines getting an extra year, but why are we considering to offer the other 3 contracts? They’re not good enough, so get rid. There’s no sentiment surrounding any of them either.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Baines is one of four senior Everton players out of contract at the end of the month and the only one offered new terms so far – the others are Oumar Niasse, Cuco Martina and Maarten Stekelenburg.
