‘So exciting’: Gary Lineker says Manchester City have a truly ‘wonderful’ player in their ranks

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has been praised by Gary Lineker following his impressive Champions League display on Wednesday night.

Pep Guardiola’s charges took on Borussia Dortmund away in their quarter-final second leg, holding a 2-1 lead from their game at the Etihad Stadium.

However, City were left needing to chase the tie after Jude Bellingham opened the scoring for the hosts on the quarter-hour mark.

The visitors set about trying to get on the scoresheet and weighed in with numerous chances, though they still trailed at the break.

City regained their lead in the tie on 55 minutes, as Emre Can was penalised for a handball in the box and Riyad Mahrez firing home.

And Foden made sure of his side’s progress in the 75th minute with a fierce low effort from outside the box which came off the post en route to the back of the net.

Lineker, watching proceedings, praised the England international following his goal:

And then shared BT Sport’s footage of the clip, adding “what a player”:

City are through to the semi-finals of the competition for the second time in their history and will face Paris Saint-Germain, who eliminated holders Bayern Munich.
