'So aggressive, so forceful': Arsenal told they have a player who leaves opponents 'visibly blanching'
Arsenal star Kieran Tierney was in action for Scotland at Euro 2020 on Tuesday night.
The Gunners defender helped get his nation to their first major tournament since 1998.
Tierney missed Scotland’s opener through injury but then played against England and Czech Republic.
Sadly, he couldn’t get his nation over the line as they lost 3-1 to Croatia.
The defeat, combined with a 2-0 loss to Czech Republic and a 0-0 draw with England, means the Scots are out of the competition.
However, Tierney gave a good account of himself and earned praise in the Scottish media.
“So aggressive, so forceful in his one-on-ones was the Arsenal man you could almost see any duelling Croatians visibly blanching,” wrote The Scotsman.
“Alas, the dominance on the ball enjoyed by the visitors meant he could not link with Robertson in the manner that has become a key feature of Scotland’s play.”
The Daily Record wrote: “The trigger for most of Scotland’s best moments as he stepped across into central defensive areas to clear danger and found time to build attacks down the left.
However, they also noted a mistake he made, adding: “Beaten in the air at the front post by Perisic as Croats nudged the game out of Scotland’s reach.”
Arsenal have a great player in their ranks – TBR View
Tierney has been one of Arsenal’s most consistent players, giving fans something to smile about during a wretched season.
Mikel Arteta really missed him at various points in 2020-21 as he nursed a number of injuries.
Tierney will no doubt be disappointed with how Scotland did at Euro 2020 but there’s hope for the future.
After his break, it’ll be great to see him back at Colney, fine-tuning his preparations for next season.
