Smith must reconsider Richards stance after Villa fans' uproar
Aston Villa are under new management in the form of Dean Smith but the new boss has already ruffled the feathers of some supporters.
The former Brentford boss told The Birmingham Mail that Micah Richards could be given the chance to return to the fold at the club despite his last competitive match coming two years ago.
30-year-old Richards, a former Aston Villa captain, is not fit enough to make an immediate return but Smith has left the door open for the ex-Manchester City man further down the line – but those comments attracted criticism on social media.

Many questioned why Richards has not kept himself fit during his two-year absence, which is a fair point, and a large number of supporters made it clear they do not want to see the former England international wear the club’s jersey ever again.
The stance of Smith is strange considering The Birmingham Mail has also stated that he is considering handing a deal to free-agent James Collins, who has been without a club since his release from West Ham in the summer and could make an immediate impression.
Smith should certainly reconsider his position on Richards as bringing him back into the fold could come back to haunt the 47-year-old boss.
