‘Small club mentality’: Some Arsenal fans react to what Kroenke and Edu are reportedly planning

A number of Arsenal fans have reacted to the report in The Sun claiming Stan Kroenke and Edu are planning to give Mikel Arteta until the end of 2021 to save his job with the Gunners.

The report claims that the Arsenal board will back Arteta financially this summer in a bid to turn the team’s fortunes around.

However, there is a caveat – if the Gunners remain languishing in mid-table come the halfway point of the 2021-22 season, then Arteta will be sacked, added the outlet.

Arsenal’s season has all-but fizzled out completely in wake of Thursday night’s Europa League elimination at the hands of Unai Emery’s Villarreal.

The Gunners sit ninth in the Premier League table, nine points adrift of fifth-placed West Ham with four games to go.

Barring an extraordinary turn of events, Arsenal look set to start next season without European football for the first time since 1995.

Arteta has found himself under increased criticism by sections of the fanbase for such a poor season despite high optimism and expectations in the summer.

Arsenal went into 2020-21 campaign having won the FA Cup and the Community Shield.

Exciting signings, key contract renewals and outstanding academy graduate breakthroughs all suggested the Gunners would be set for a great campaign.
