Slovan Bratislava chief executive Ivan Kmotrik has told Slovakian outlet Sport 24 that he has met with Celtic representatives to discuss the future of striker Andraz Sporar, who has netted a stunning 20 goals in 26 games.

Sporar, 25, has caught the eye of numerous clubs – accordig to Kmotrik – after the 19-time Slovenia international scored five goals in six Europa League group stage games. He even found the back of the net against Premier League side Wolves.

In 26 games, then, he has netted 20 times and it has alerted plenty of clubs – like Celtic – to his presence in January. The Hoops may be after a new striker, as Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Bayo struggle to provide back-up to Odsonne Edouard.

Slovan supremo Kmotrik has claimed that he has met with Celtic representatives over a deal for the on-fire striker ahead of the January window, but the Daily Express claims Slovan will accept a fee of around £6million.

“There are many interested in Andraz. Celtic is the most aggressive yet. We have a meeting with the club’s representatives right now. We’ll see what happens, nothing is clear,” Kmotrik said. “We will not sell him cheaply and we will not release him for two or three million.”

TBR’s view – Kmotrik is an expensive purchase to become back-up

Joining a club like Celtic for £6million, you would be forgiven for thinking that you would become one of the first names on the team sheet. That is because he would be in the top 10 biggest transfers ever completed by Celtic.

But Edouard is first choice and would remain first choice, even if Celtic did bring Sporar to Parkhead. So, £6million for a second-choice striker is an expensive outlay – but perhaps it is a sign of ambition from the Hoops.
