'Sloppiness': BBC pundit slates 25-year-old Tottenham player v Sporting
Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison was criticised by BBC Sport pundit Leon Osman for his “sloppiness” during Spurs’ 2-0 Champions League loss to Sporting CP.
Spurs looked on course for a point in Portugal in a game where both sides seemed evenly matched.
Tottenham had 12 efforts, of which five were on target.
However, Antonio Conte’s charges were unable to take their chances, and the hosts made them pay for it.
Sporting substitute Paulinho headed a Pedro Goncalves corner past Hugo Lloris in the final minute of normal time.
Then, Tottenham conceded a second in injury time, confirming their first defeat of the season.
Arthur Gomes cut in from the left and breezed past Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal before slotting a low finish into the corner.
Richarlison didn’t have a terrible game by any means. Indeed, he was the most lively of Tottenham’s forwards on the night.
However, the 25-year-old wasn’t at his best. ‘Industrious but lacking in end product on this occasion’, according to Alasdair Gold.
Around the hour mark, Richarlison tried his luck after getting in the box and turning his marker.
However, he struggled to wrap his foot around an attempt with his weaker foot.
“It was a bit of sloppiness by Richarlison,” said Osman (13/9, 19:07).
“When Tottenham lost the ball Sporting attacked quickly and Rodrigo Bentancur decided to make the foul and take the yellow card.”
