Slaven Bilic reportedly wants to resurrect West Bromwich Albion’s main transfer plan. According to The Daily Mail, Bilic is eager to bring Dwight Gayle back to West Brom.
Gayle spent last season on loan at The Hawthorns after joining in a loan-swap with Salomon Rondon. Both players enjoyed personal success at their respective clubs. And this led to talk about a potential permanent swap deal.
Rondon scored 12 goals for Premier League side Newcastle. And Gayle netted 24 times for West Brom in the Championship to lead their promotion charge, which ultimately fell short in the play-offs.
But West Brom baulked over making Gayle’s deal permanent due to wage demands. However, Bilic wants West Brom to perform a U-turn on this stance and rekindle their interest in the 28-year-old.
Now, the two clubs could explore the possibility of a permanent swap deal. Bilic wants Gayle to lead the charge as West Brom compete for promotion again in the 2019/20 season.
Losing Gayle would be a major blow for West Brom as he was their main source of goals. This deal seems feasible as Newcastle will be keen to bring Rondon back in a part-exchange.
West Brom could also lose Jay Rodriguez this summer and that could accelerate a deal for Gayle. All parties seem to want this Gayle-Rondon deal to go ahead.
