Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has issued an honourable mention to Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Moutinho as he named his Premier League Team of the Season.
The Portugal international, who joined Wolves for £5million from Monaco in the summer of 2018, has been nothing short of sensational for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
Moutinho has made 90 competitive appearances for the Molineux side in all competitions, with 21 assists and two goals under his belt.
His superb all-round play, pulling the strings in midfield, has been a key element in Wolves’ impressive campaigns last term and this season before the football suspension.
Although Nicholas opted for Manchester City duo Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri in midfield along with Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, he nonetheless paid tribute to Moutinho’s efforts this season.
“I look at Wilfred Ndidi and James Maddison, who have had a very good three or four months,” Nicholas wrote on Sky Sports about Rodri.
“Does it make them better than Rodri, who in my opinion the best holding midfielder in the country at doing that? Fabinho is close to him, but think Rodri has more in terms of all-round play.
“Part of me does think a Leicester or Wolves player should be in there. Joao Moutinho has been brilliant. They bring more than just being an individual for their team.”
While it’s a shame that Moutinho hasn’t made any of the Sky Sports pundits’ Premier League Teams of the Season, it’s still good of Nicholas to at least give an honourable mention to him.
The 33-year-old has been nothing short of magical for Wolves since his arrival two years ago, delivering in the middle of the pitch, offensively, defensively and from set pieces.
Best of all, Moutinho penned a new deal in November last year, so Wolves fans can expect to witness the maestro doing his magic at Molineux for another two seasons at least.
