Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd has claimed that Liverpool should’ve signed Tottenham Hotspur superstar Son Heung-min after Sadio Mane left Anfield.

The Senegal international was one of Jurgen Klopp’s best players, but he decided to leave the club this summer. Bayern Munich snapped him up, and Liverpool haven’t exactly replaced him.

Apart from the 9-0 drubbing of Bournemouth last weekend, Liverpool have had a poor start to the season.

The Reds had picked up just two points after their first three games, and although their midfield was the biggest issue in many people’s eyes, they really did miss Mane.

Boyd believes Liverpool should’ve replaced the now-Bayern star, and he claimed on Sky Sports that if he was the decision-maker at Anfield, he would’ve gone and signed Son from Tottenham this summer.

The pundit said, as quoted by HITC: “When you have set the standards so high, then the performances of Kulusevski and Kane as well, Son last season was unbelievable. You felt he took his game to that next level.

“If I was Liverpool, that would have been the person I would have gone and got, to replace Mane.

“The same ilk, in terms of work rate, he sets the tempo, he goes after teams and he has that quality as well. It might have been a slow start from him personally, but there is nothing to worry about there.”

Son has struggled this season

Son won the Golden Boot last season after a truly spectacular campaign. Everyone expected him to kick on and take Spurs to another level this term, but he hasn’t been great.

Even his own manager, Antonio Conte, admitted recently that the South Korean is ‘suffering a lot‘ because of his poor form, but he’s still a truly world-class player.

Son is among the best attackers in the Premier League and is up there with the best left-wingers in the world. Some would even argue that he’s better than Mane, which – based on last season – is definitely worth a debate.

However, there was absolutely no chance that Tottenham would sell him this summer to any club in the world, let alone Liverpool, who are a direct rival. Son was always going to stay and it’s only a matter of time before he returns to his best.
