Sky Sports pundit says Leeds have a player capable of truly ‘phenomenal’ feats

Leeds United winger Raphinha has been praised by Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson, who thought the Whites star’s set plays on Friday night were “phenomenal”.

Marcelo Bielsa’s charges were beaten 1-0 at Wolves, their second Premier League defeat in a row and third loss in four league games.

Leeds weighed in with an impressive 18 shots, seven of which were on target, but failed to find the back of the net.

Wolves were also sharp in attack, registering 15 shots and five on target, the game ultimately decided by an unfortunate Illan Meslier own goal.

Despite the disappointing defeat, Raphina made some superb deliveries to his teammates that really should have been finished off, and Merson was eager to praise the 24-year-old.

“The one thing you could take as a positive, Raphinha’s set-plays were phenomenal,” he told Sky Sports, as transcribed by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I mean, some of his balls in, into what I would call no-man’s land.

“There were free-kicks where you think, ‘They’re not a good place to have them’, and the service was phenomenal. They should score.

“If one of them go either way of the goalie, they might go on and win the game by three or four, but it wasn’t the Leeds that I’ve been watching.”

TBR View:

Raphinha cost Leeds a reported £17million in October last year and he’s more than justifying his fee, quickly becoming a fan favourite at Elland Road.

The Whites may have stumbled a bit in recent weeks but they should be more than alright to stay up, and hopefully Raphinha and a strengthened Leeds side will go up a level next season.
