'He's got the mentality': Sky Sports pundit raves about Everton player, says he deserves huge credit
Everton striker Neal Maupay was the hero today as his goal sealed a massive three points against West Ham United.
The Toffees went into the international break with a big win behind them after Maupay tucked away in the 53rd minute to send Goodison Park into raptures. For Frank Lampard, it was the ideal way to sign off into the two week break and gives him something to firmly build on when they return to action in October.
Of course, Maupay will be delighted to get his goal as well. He missed some big chances against Liverpool and came in for criticism for doing so. And speaking on Sky Sports today after the game, pundit Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink said he thinks Maupay deserves credit for keeping at it.
“What you can say about Maupay is he misses chances, but it doesn’t really affect him. He’s got the mentality to go back. At Brighton he would miss chances but he’d still go back and back. And that’s what it is at the end of the day.
“Keep on believing in yourself. He missed a big chance against Liverpool but he’s there again today. Go and get those chances and he deserved his goal today,” Hasselbaink said.
TBR’s View: Maupay A Good Everton Signing
Hasselbaink is bang on here when it comes to his assessment of Maupay. He doesn’t always finish his chances but he does keep at it and that is what the top strikers have to do really. There is no point in sulking and getting down, you just have to keep trying to score.
Maupay was good today for Everton and his goal was just reward for a fine performance all around. Certainly, Frank Lampard will be delighted with his new man and will hope for more to come after the break.
