A player recently linked with Tottenham Hotspur has been named in Sky Sports pundit Matt Le Tissier’s Premier League Team of the Season.
A report from Football London at the end of March claimed that Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope could be an option for Spurs this summer as a potential competitor for Hugo Lloris’ number one jersey.
The Daily Star, meanwhile, has suggested that the England international is to be subject to a tug of war between Tottenham and Chelsea this summer.

Pope has established himself as Burnley’s first choice in the last 12 months, taking over from Tom Heaton and seeing off the challenge of Joe Hart, who has had to make do with a place on the bench.
The 27-year-old is in pole position to win the Premier League Golden Glove award this season, having kept 11 clean sheets – one more than Sheffield United’s Dean Henderson and Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, who triumphed last year.
While fellow Sky Sports pundits Paul Merson, Phil Thompson and Charlie Nicholas opted for either Alisson or Ederson in between the sticks in their teams of the season, Le Tiss went for Pope.
“Every time I have watched Burnley, he has been impressive and made key saves in many games,” said the Southampton legend.
“Nick Pope has the most clean sheets out of anyone in the Premier League. Dean Henderson has been impressive, as has Alisson, but I am just edging with Pope.
“I think the way things were for Euro 2020, if both keepers were to keep up their current form, Pope would beat Jordan Pickford to the No 1 spot.
“Gareth Southgate has a loyalty to Jordan and thinks highly of him, but at some point, Pope could force his way in.”
TBR View:
While Lloris is a high-calibre goalkeeper and has been a great servant for Tottenham over the years, he has allowed an increasing number of errors to creep into his game in recent seasons.
With Paulo Gazzaniga having also had shaky moments when covering for the France captain, it’s little surprise to see speculation growing about the prospect of Jose Mourinho looking into a new keeper.
Pope has certainly enjoyed a superb season, in which he has risen above two fellow England internationals, and at just 27, he is yet to hit his prime as a keeper – Spurs should definitely pursue his signature in the summer.
