Sky Sports journalist shares intriguing transfer update about West Ham

West Ham United have sprung into action over the past few days in the transfer window.

Indeed, the Hammers have had a bid rejected for Jean-Clair Todibo, and in the last few hours it has emerged that the east London club have had a bid accepted for Max Kilman from Wolves.

The fact that West Ham have gone in strongly for Kilman after having their Todibo bid rejected may suggest that they’ve found their man at centre-back.

However, Kilman may be just one part of the puzzle as according to Dharmesh Sheth, speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk Podcast, West Ham could actually be in the market for two new centre-backs.

West Ham could go for two centre-backs

Sheth shared what he’s been hearing on the West Ham front.

“Right this is interesting now because it looks like West Ham could be in the market for two central defenders. Remember, Angelo Ogbonna left the club after the expiration of his contract and there are doubts over the future of Nayef Aguerd amid links to Saudi Arabia,” Sheth said.

There is even talk about Kurt Zouma and if he has an uncertain future.

“When you put it all together you can understand why West Ham may be looking at two, not one.”

West Ham’s transformed defence

It sounds as though West Ham’s defence will be totally transformed next season, and that is very exciting.

The Hammers are one of the only teams left in the Premier League that are yet to fully embrace ball-playing defenders, with the likes of Zouma and Ogbonna playing key roles without being the most technically gifted.

However, with Kilman seemingly set to arrive and Todibo potentially following him, West Ham’s defence could be about to become a lot more progressive.

Two new centre-back signings could completely change the way West Ham try to play next season under Julen Lopetegui.
