Sky Sports journalist says Arsenal have just made contact to sign Moussa Diaby

Arsenal have just made their move to sign Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby after their pursuit of Mykhaylo Mudryk ended in disappointment.

The Gunners are desperate for a new winger in this month’s transfer window. Mudryk was their top target and it almost seemed certain that they would get him a few days ago. But, Chelsea swooped in and lured him away.

Now, Arsenal are looking elsewhere, and Diaby appears to be on their wish list.

Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka are Arsenal’s first-choice wingers at the moment and are among the best in the Premier League as well. Both players have been fantastic all season, and they are one of the biggest reasons why the Gunners are on top of the Premier League table.

However, Mikel Arteta does not have a top-quality backup for either player out wide, which is a huge concern as if one of Martinelli or Saka gets injured, Arsenal are in real trouble.

That’s why a new winger has been a priority for Arsenal for a few months now, and after what happened with Mudryk, they will want to bring someone in as quickly as possible.

Leverkusen’s Diaby, who is one of the best wingers in the Bundesliga, would be a sensational signing, and Edu has apparently made initial contact with the German club to discuss a potential transfer.

That’s according to Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports, who tweeted a few minutes ago: “Arsenal have made initial contact with Bayer Leverkusen over Moussa Diaby.

“Leverkusen do not want to sell mid-season. Leverkusen were quoting €100 million (£88.5m) to interested clubs in the summer.”

TBR View:

Arsenal were adamant throughout this month that they were not going to pay £88.5 million for Mudryk, who barely has any top-level experience in his career.

Chelsea went ahead and paid that sum, and many believe the Blues have gone overboard to blow Arsenal out of the water.

If the Gunners really have to spend £88.5m on a new wide player, Diaby would be much more worthy of it. The Frenchman’s numbers over the last few years have been truly sensational – 43 goals and 41 assists in all competitions since the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

He’s ‘lightning‘ quick and is a terrifying player for defenders to come up against, and he would be a fine signing for Arsenal to put their Mudryk woes behind them.
