'The news is': Reporter shares latest information on Danny Ings, after Manchester United links
Despite only joining Villa last summer in a £20m+ deal from Southampton, Ings has been mentioned among a cluster of names who Steven Gerrard might be open to selling this summer. The England international didn’t quite have his best season at Villa Park, and Gerrard is thought to be keen on adding new faces this summer.
However, despite those links to other clubs, Sky Sports have reported today that Villa actually have no intention of selling Ings this summer. Instead, it’s claimed Gerrard actually sees Ings as an integral part of his squad and with that, there’ll be no room for negotiation for those interested parties.
For Ings, this news will sit nicely heading into the summer. Speculation about your future can always be a big distraction and it will mean the striker can simply focus on being fit and ready for the new season.
Meanwhile, Leeds will have to move on to other targets. The Whites are desperate for a new striker to help Patrick Bamford. Manchester United, on the other hand, are hopeful they can land a number of new targets for new manager, Erik ten Hag.
TBR’s View: Ings Can Succeed At Villa
Danny Ings is a proven Premier League player who just happened to have a bit of bad luck with injury and form last season.
There is no doubt he can produce the goods and this is probably a good decision from Gerrard to keep him. Certainly, Villa would need to spend a big sum to get a replacement through the door anyway.
Given a clear run at it and with the right players around him, Ings can succeed at Villa. Gerrard is clearly ready to take the club forward and with Ings on board, it will be one less position to worry about.
